A food forest in Limburg hills of Limburg with height differences of ten to fifteen meters
At a stone's throw from the church village of Ransdaal, in the middle of the hills of Limburg, lies Lubosch Land. The name refers to the old name of the area where the Nieboer family's farm is now located. The family took over a dairy farm here to establish a sustainable agricultural enterprise. Initiator Geert Jan Nieboer and his daughter Laura do not have an agricultural background, but share the mission to contribute to a healthy and sustainable form of food production. With this aim, they initiated food forest project “Lubosch Land”. The name is not only a tribute to the location and its history, but serves also as an "umbrella" for alle activities they aim to develop here. One of those projects is Food Forest Lubosch Land.

The food forest will be planted on a hilly terrain with loess soil and height differences from ten to fifteen meters. The design takes into consideration the contours of this typical Limburg landscape. More than two hundred edible species will be planted and arranged in such a way, that they can be easily harvested later. Food Forest Lubosch Land is still in the development phase. To bridge the years until harvesting can begin, the Nieboer family has started an organic garden, a farm store and an education space, which can be found in the former cowshed on the property. In the store, the family can build a loyal customer base for the edible crops that are to be harvested. A production area will be located at the end of the barn. In the future, harvests from the food forest will be processed here into local products.

In February 2022, the first 4,000 trees were planted. The wind and alder sedges and part of the grid were constructed
In 2021, a preliminary design was ready. During the planting season in the winter of 2021-2022, all hedges and tree lines were planted. In addition, a coarse grid of pioneers was established on almost the entire plot. The nearly 6,000 trees and shrubs planted in the previous planting season, were put to a considerable test afterwards. Long periods of heavy rain, storms, drought, cold and sun alternated, and the extreme heat in the subsequent summer also left its marks. The first large amounts of production planting is expected to be planted in Winter 2022-2023.
